People enjoy running in marathons for various reasons. Whether it’s for weight loss, to support charities and bring awareness to a charity that is close to someone’s heart, to improve fitness, to be social by running with their local running group or just for run. Whatever your reason is, we have created a quick guide in the local must do running festivals and marathons located in Newcastle and the Hunter regions.
Mine Super NewRun – Newcastle’s Festival of Running – Sunday 5th April 2020
This is a festival of running that really caters for all types of fitness levels, as it consists of 5 different races. Bring the family along and run in 2K4KIDS, starting at 10am, this 2km course is suitable for younger children who can not compete in larger running courses. But the main event is the marathon which kicks off at 6am and is for those who have trained for the 42km distance. This is a completely flat course around Newcastle Harbour and Foreshore.
Maitland River Run – Sunday 7 June 2020
If you are looking for a picturesque place to run, then this is it. This 4km course consist of running in and around the Riverbank of Maitland CBD. Winery Running Festival & Moon Marathon – Saturday 18th July to Sunday 19th 2020
Entries for this event open early February. This running festival will run over 2 days and include multiple events. Saturday will consist of the moon marathon, this is a night marathon held on the golf tracks, start time is 2.30pm, this is the first night marathon of its kind in Australia, so if you are a marathon expert we highly recommended talking advantage of the cooler running conditions that night time running has to offer. The course consists of 10.5km on looped pathways throughout the golf cart tracks, set in the exclusive Vintage Golf Course. If you can’t run the whole 42km yourself they have a relay option available, so you and 3 friends can complete the track together as a relay team.
Other events will conclude on the Sunday, which includes; half marathon, winery 10km, winery wander and 2K kids Marathon. To enter visit: https://wineryrun.com/
Summer Country Run – Sunday 8th November 2020
This is a 10km race, which is being held at Morpeth in the Hunter Valley. This is a flat course set amongst the beautiful scenery of the Morpeth farmlands. The race starts at 8am and the presentation ceremony will commence at 10.30am. This race is perfect for those who want to train to gain skills for a longer marathon, or for experienced runners who are looking to improve their PB. Hunter Valley Ultra – Sunday 15th November 2020
If you plan on putting your body and running skills to the test, then this is the event for you. This is a trail run can be completed by the whole family. With four different distances on offer, stating from 12 km up to 102km around the Drayton Winery in Pokolbin.
